Purpose of Position

The VP of software & data engineering/operations is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing teams of software and data engineers, software and data operations personnel, DevOps, and application architecture while providing leadership, vision and direction for those technology domains. This position is responsible for recruiting, developing and retaining talent, as well as ensuring the software & data engineering/operations staff has the skills and capabilities to meet business needs. The VP of software & data engineering/operations also oversees the implementation of software and data engineering initiatives and is responsible for championing best practices and ensuring initiatives achieve business outcomes.The VP of software & data engineering/operations will report directly to the Chief Information Officer. This role also works closely with peer IT leaders, including information security, infrastructure and operations, business relationship management and project delivery services to design and execute on the enterprise technology roadmap. The VP of software & data engineering/operations will develop strategy, drive innovation, and ensure execution and support in a complex organization with multiple US and international sites.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Lead technology planning activities to align software & data engineering priorities to business goals. Provide direction on all aspects of software development and data engineering and collaborate with key partners.•    Defines strategic imperatives in terms of the links between increased value, enterprise needs and technological solutions.•    Contribute to architectural design decisions and product roadmaps•    Effectively manage department budget to deliver on-time software products, systems and solutions that align with the FlightSafety strategy.•    Fully accountable for software and data platform quality and on-time delivery.•    Lead the technology team in enforcing standard practices that enhance the maintenance and reliability of FSI’s software and data platforms.•    Collaborate with the appropriate departments to develop and maintain a technology plan that supports organizational needs.•    Partner with other business and IT leaders to identify opportunities for significant technology/process enhancements.•    Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and innovation with a focus on being a best in class product delivery organization.•    Build a culture of collaborative, on-time, in-scope, and on-budget delivery with the expected and required quality.•    Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to support ongoing employee development.•    Challenge and inspire team members to achieve and deliver on agreed business results.•    Mentor managers in the full spectrum of strategy, planning, SDLC, people management and cross-functional collaboration.•    Acquire, develop and manage talent to consistently deliver business results and build future IT leadership capability•    Monitor technology investment, risk, and opportunity while providing clear and consistent communication to senior IT leadership•    Develop key performance indicators to measure and report on the health and operational stability of software and data services•    Inform senior management of the most significant threats and opportunities and creates plausible paths to assuage or capture them."

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent experience preferred"

Minimum Experience

12+ years in software and data engineering experience leading successful software and data engineering teams in multiple locations•    5+ years of leadership experience managing cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders•    Demonstrated ability to interpret technology and market trends as a foundation for technology and product roadmaps.•    At least three years' experience delivering multi-tenant SaaS solutions.•    At least three years' experience leading teams utilizing Agile development methodologies.•    Proven success in establishing key performance indicators, metrics, and focus to drive software development best practices."

Ability to quickly size up where and how the organization creates value, identify opportunities and risks, and develop appropriate, actionable plans•    Expert ability to develop strong business partnerships and influence senior and executive management•    Experience managing remote/virtual teams and partners•    Excellent mentoring and team development skills•    Undertakes continuous self-development of both functional and leadership skills•    Expertise in strategic planning and documenting software and data deliverables (IT policies & processes, IT principles & reference architecture, technology standards, etc.)"
