Purpose of Position
The Lead, Solutions Architect is responsible for guiding the development and lifecycle management of secure technology solutions which enable business value streams, processes, data, applications, services, and supporting infrastructure. The role elicits and synthesizes business goals and strategy to drive measurable business and technology outcomes. The ideal candidate is a professional with deep hands-on technology design, development, and delivery expertise who is test centric, DevOps savvy, and a non-dogmatic Agilist who uses the appropriate delivery method for the job at hand. This position is also responsible for guiding architectural governance and standards, mentoring software engineers, and drives software engineering skills uplift.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Consult business and technology leaders on a range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of a business domain and business partner strategies
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of at least two technology domains to enable business strategy now and in the foreseeable future
- Collaboratively define architectural blueprints, solution designs, and multi-year roadmaps, and the measurable outcomes needed to verify and adapt solution approach to realize business and technology strategies
- Guide delivery and support teams to ensure the solution meets business and technology and timeliness expectations as it evolves
- Help guide, plan for, and effectively manage solutions across their lifecycle, from inception through retirement
- Support and participate in Enterprise Architecture governance and improvement efforts: standard definition, reference modeling, architecture reviews, developer skill uplift
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science information-technology, engineering, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
Minimum Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on, modern software development experience.
- 2+ years of experience in at least two IT solution development disciplines, including software development, data engineering and analytics, DevOps, infrastructure and network, cloud (Azure/AWS), COTS (ERP, PLM, Document Management)
- And significant experience:
- delivering presentations to mid-level executives and technical audiences
- securing IT infrastructure, applications, services, and operations (NIST)
- developing architecture blueprints, strategies, and roadmaps
- leading teams and mentoring technologists
- participating in Enterprise Architecture governance activities
- working in regulated industry
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Must have the ability to read code and evaluate software designs in at least one modern language
- Ability to propose and estimate the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives
- Reasonably humble, data driven and display’s intellectual curiosity and integrity
- Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and persuade business and IT leaders and IT development teams
- Advanced knowledge of various backend development languages like C#, PHP, Java, Python
- Advanced knowledge of various database technologies, NoSql, Relational, Columnar
- Advanced knowledge of various frontend languages and frameworks like HTML5/CSS, Angular, Dart/Flutter, SPAs
- Solid understanding of product management, agile principles and development methodologies including Agile (Scrum) and waterfall
- Strength of understanding and knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and TOGAF
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences
