Purpose of Position

The Manager, Courseware Platform Development leads the technical and product team responsible for building, enhancing, and operating the platforms that support training content development, delivery, and lifecycle management. This role extends the core responsibilities of the Manager, IT by focusing specifically on application development, platform engineering, and product enablement for Courseware Technology. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering leadership with product-minded thinking to ensure our courseware platforms are scalable, innovative, and aligned with business needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

•    Lead technical and product team members in creating platform capabilities and tools that enable development and delivery of training content.
•    Manage day-to-day operational and tactical activities, ensuring timely and high-quality execution aligned with departmental KPIs.
•    Provide regular performance management, coaching, and feedback; address performance issues and build corrective action plans when needed.
•    Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure platform priorities reflect business needs and are clearly communicated.

Platform Development & Operations

•    Own the development lifecycle of courseware platforms, from ideation through delivery, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
•    Direct resource planning, budgeting, and forecasting for platform development initiatives.
•    Oversee technical operations, including deployments, platform monitoring, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis to maintain platform stability and reliability.
•    Ensure SDLC and Agile standards are consistently applied within the courseware platform domain.

Strategic Planning & Collaboration

•    Serve as a consulted stakeholder in platform architectural design, technical decisions, and large-scale enhancements.
•    Collaborate with infrastructure, data engineering, security, and external technical partners to ensure cohesive integration and scalable platform performance.
•    Work with IT and Business Managers and Directors to assess product viability, resourcing constraints, and long-term platform strategy.

Additional Responsibilities

•    Provide after-hours or weekend support when necessary.
•    Prioritize workload effectively, maintaining clear communication around timelines, risks, and dependencies.
•    Maintain accuracy and completeness of assigned work and outcomes.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience

Minimum Experience

  • 10+ years in application development, including experience with modern development frameworks, cloud platforms, and integration patterns.
  • 5+ years of team management experience leading engineering or product development teams.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), and associated toolsets.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Deep proficiency in application development and platform engineering practices.
  • Experience with Agile development tools (Azure DevOps, Git, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, APIs, cloud services, and integration best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Certification in relevant technology/platform areas are a plus.
