Purpose of Position

Engineering Manager, Custom Application Platform leads custom application development team of eight in support of Java/J2EE Enterprise Service Bus running on Kafka/Camel, Flutter based user interface platform, and the Domain Services Framework. People leader of approximately eight developers and testers. Great opportunity to lead the modernization and standardization of leading-edge frameworks.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering and quality teams using servant-leadership principle to drive business value through the strategic use of custom application development.
  • Coach and lead your Agile Delivery team to Improve delivery quality, automation, observability, secure CI/CD practices, and engineering feedback loops.
  • As an application and domain owner, develop and maintain strong business partner relationships
  • Establish and manage to your annual budget while maintaining a sustainable pace for your team
  • Define and manage the Platform Services strategic technology roadmap
  • Partner effectively with Domain Product Leads, your Delivery Lead (Scrum master), the Enterprise Architect, and InfoSec leaders
  • Lead your team’s operations and break fix activities
  • Facilitate 24x7 on-call support, participate in after-hours rotation as needed
  • Prioritize and manage workload, issues, and risks
  • Limited travel when required

Minimum Education

•Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience

Minimum Experience

  • 5+ years of experience leading Agile software engineering teams, more than one at a time for at least 2 years
  • 10+ years of experience in a Scrum/XP software development role
  • 2+ years of experience leading /managing testers
  • 5+ years of experience as a People Leader i.e., have direct reports
  • Hands on experience in the use of modern programming languages and test automation frameworks (not a day to day coding role, must have significant experience as an software engineer)

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must have technical depth in at least two of the following: Java/J2EE, Flutter, .Net,
  • Ability to lead transformational change in an emergent agile culture
  • Working knowledge of Agile delivery practices and the ability to coach teams on effective planning, flow, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Able to coach the use of user stories and GHERKIN acceptance criteria
  • Able to coach Unit Testing and/or Test-Driven Development and leverage Domain Driven Design concepts
  • Values lean metrics and their healthful application
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices
  • Familiar with NIST 800-171 and understands how to leverage static and dynamic code scanning results
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
