Purpose of Position

The Director of Simulator Inventory Management is a strategic leadership role responsible for setting the vision, policies, and execution framework for all simulator-related inventory operations across the organization. This leader ensures that spare parts, rotatable components, and support materials for all Flight Training Devices (FTDs) and Full Flight Simulators (FFSs) are available when needed and without overstocking or overspending.

 

All strategies, processes, and team behaviors are expected of our FlightPlan, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, culture, and performance standards.

 

The Director works closely with senior management, Simulation to include Simulation Operations Support (SOS), and Learning Center teams to ensure inventory strategies align with FlightPlan commitments as well as financial, operational, data reliability and device reliability objectives. This role drives consistency, accuracy, digital transformation, and continuous improvement across all learning center inventory system.

 

Impact of the Role

The Director of Simulator Inventory Management is critical to ensuring FlightSafety’s simulator fleet operates with maximum efficiency, minimal downtime, and optimal cost control. By providing strategic direction, operational excellence, and cross-functional leadership this role contributes to the reliability of training devices, in collaboration with Regional DSOs.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and implement enterprise wide inventory management strategies, encompassing receiving, storage, internal logistics, Hub and spoke model, shipping, and auditing processes
  • Align inventory policies and long-term planning with organizational operational goals and simulator uptime targets
  • Establish inventory KPIs, accuracy metrics, and performance dashboards

Functional Oversight

  • Direct the simulator spares inventory management function across all Learning Centers
  • Ensure minimum stock levels for expendable and rotatable parts are properly defined, maintained, and optimized based on usage history, forecasted needs, varing simulator configurations

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor inventory management teams, fostering collaboration, high performance, and consistent execution of best practices
  • Provide guidance and training frameworks for Spares Support personnel

Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Establish and maintain robust daily/weekly cycle count programs, driving achievement of monthly and quarterly accuracy targets,
  • Ensure automated records of physical inventory are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with corporate requirements
  • Oversee processes to acquire and maintain spares cost, pricing data, and repair quotes, ensuring cost-effective decisions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with SOS to prioritize critical-path spare parts and support training equipment, ensuring alignment
  • Coordinate with RDSOs, Fleet Directors and Learning Center leadership when applicable to forecast and prepare for upcoming repair or replacement requirements and inventory impact

 

Reporting & Financial Management

  • Provide clear, timely reporting on inventory health, financial impact, and stock count

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce carrying costs, and minimize downtime due to parts shortages and lead times
  • Standardize procedures and adopt best practices across all inventory operations

Minimum Experience

  • Strong leadership experience with managing multiple locations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with engineering and operations
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret inventory data, repair cost trends, and consumption patterns to inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance culture and drive transformational change
  • Familiarity with simulator hardware, training device operations, or high-complexity technical inventory SAP environments is preferred.
