Purpose of Position
The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is a key leadership role on the Finance team for FlightSafety International (a Berkshire Hathaway company). The Director, FP&A has oversight of the commercial sales and manufacturing operations. This position leads all financial analysis efforts in support of strategic and tactical decision making by functional leaders and the Senior Leadership Team. This position is responsible for directing and leading the forecasting, reporting, analysis, and budgeting activities for assigned areas, as well as sales pipeline deal and financial return analysis. The Director, FP&A supports the financial consolidation for the various FlightSafety divisions. This role will play a critical part in maturing our financial posture by building out or refining processes, implementing strong financial controls, and developing a high performing finance team.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Owns the preparation of the 10 Year Financial plan, including long term business and growth plans, for the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
- Manages the weekly forecasting process, acting as a trusted advisor to business partners to gain insight on market, business, and operational direction.
- Leads and mentors team members who prepare and analyze the operating and departmental actual results, forecasts and budgets.
- Analyzes variance between actuals, forecast, and budget to identify key drivers and associated risks to FlightSafety’s financial and operational goals, as well as at the project level.
- Prepares clear, concise, and executive-level presentations for Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors which communicate financial results and outlook.
- Facilitates or participates in cross-functional teams, influencing mid- to long- term decisions and driving collaboration among groups that have historically been siloed.
- Able to take conceptual ideas and concepts, developing into projects to aid the business in decision-making.
- Proactively monitors trends to identify risks and opportunities across various cost drivers, communicating trends and issues requiring leadership’s attention.
- Establishes benchmarks to assist leadership in managing the fiscal discipline of their functions.
- Drives operational improvement and influences cost containment efforts across functional areas.
- Prepares sales deal analysis and options in partnership with the Sales team.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
Minimum Experience
- 10 years of relevant experience
- Experience in a manufacturing industry preferred
