Purpose of Position
Responsible for developing software solutions for engine powerplant modeling that mimic aircraft design which supports pilot training. Simulate a wide range of engine types for both fixed and rotary aircraft for military and commercial training.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Design and test propulsion models in a variety of languages, such as C/C++, FORTRAN, Matlab, or Simulink
- Design and test APU models in a variety of languages, such as C/C++, FORTRAN, Matlab, or Simulink
- Develop scripts as needed to organize and reduce large volumes of data.
- Integrate 3rd party propulsion models into a simulation environment
- Write comprehensive test guide procedures to validate models. Provide verification data to training facilities and/or regulators
- Analyze wiring diagrams, system schematics, logic diagrams, engineering specifications, system definition documents and flight test data. This information will be used to design and develop software to simulate a wide range of propulsion related systems.
- Interact with customers and subject matter experts to resolve discrepancies
- Provide routine status reviews to project team and management
- Travel to customer facilities as needed to resolve discrepancies, evaluate modifications, or to provide customer/regulator support
- Coordinate with program management, lead engineers, and customers to ensure all assigned systems are ready on time and meet contractual obligations.
- Travel, shift work, and overtime may be periodically required to accomplish assigned tasks.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering preferably Aerospace or Mechanical, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience
- Bachelor's degree or other applicable technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, test requirements, wiring diagrams, system schematics, logic diagrams, and system failure cases.
- Ability to transform pseudocode and logic diagrams into high order computer languages
- Ability to develop, systematically test and debug propulsion software models in real time with and without hardware in the loop
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Teamwork and problem solving skills
- Programming experience in FORTRAN, C++, MATLAB, and other scripting languages
- Knowledge of operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, UNIX and Linux.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
