Purpose of Position

Responsible for the design, documentation, coding, testing, and verification of Automatic Flight Control System software. Will work with other software groups, hardware engineering groups, and technicians to establish and verify proper design and function of assigned systems. Will coordinate with program management and the customer to ensure all assigned systems are verified and acceptable for simulator qualification and ready for use by the customer.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Reviews simulator engineering specifications, malfunction documents, automatic flight control system test requirements, automatic flight control system related test data, and aircraft wiring diagrams and schematics, plus all additional Auto flight related aircraft specific data.
  • Designs and implements automatic flight control system simulation software and integrates the software with that of the engineering disciplines such as flight, engines, systems, navigation, and visual systems.
  • Integrates automatic flight control system software with control loading and motion software and hardware.
  • Develops complete automatic flight control system test program and prepares automatic flight control system customer test plans.
  • Prepares customer test guide for the automatic control system per specifications.
  • Performs standardized checkout procedures.
  • Understands and develops full Flight Director and Autopilot models and control laws.
  • Transforms engineering flow diagrams into high order computer language and working automatic flight control system models.
  • Uses pictures-to-code tools to develop software models.
  • Directs all aspects of automatic flight control system tests under the supervision of a Lead Engineer or the Group Leader.
  • Works with other engineering departments to ensure the automatic flight control system simulation meets all test requirements.
  • Participates in on-site qualification process of simulator.
  • Presents periodic informational reviews to the functional and project management.
  • Works with other engineering departments, Programs Managers and others to smoothly and efficiently effect an integrated total simulation.
  • Works with customers to complete automatic flight control system testing and correct any discrepancies in the automatic flight control system simulation. 

 

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering Preferably Aerospace, Aeronautical or Electrical; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience

0-10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • FORTRAN, UNIX, C++ and Mat lab desired.
  • Knowledge of operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Concurrent is desired

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
