CNC Programmer-2nd Shift

JOB DUTIES

 

Performs programming for CNC Machines and or sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

 

Determines and prepares any jigs or special tooling requirements.    Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements for individual or multiple machines.

 

Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.

 

Pulls drawings and checks geometry using AutoCad and SolidWorks software.

 

Assists in diagnosis of programming and/or operational problems.  Performs assists and records preventative maintenance requirements.

 

Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, routers and grinders.

 

Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

 

Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.

 

Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

 

Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

 

May be required to design machine tools and/or fixtures for new or existing parts.

 

Performs minor machine offset adjustments and approved program changes to assure parts meet drawing  and production requirements.

 

Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.

 

Verifies conformance, dimensioning and alignment of finished work pieces, parts and assemblies to specifications and work orders. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.

 

Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

 

Assists in diagnosis of programming and/or operational problems.  Performs assists and records preventative maintenance requirements.

 

Required to write and/or modify machine programs as necessary

 

Redlines drawings and creates DCR’s to record and resolves design errors.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Manual, CNC machine operating and programming; minimum 10 years CNC operation, related experience and/or vocational or collegiate training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.

 

Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, KeyTech, AutoCad, Solidworks, Esprit, EZCam and other CNC Programming and technical software.

 

WaterJet, Press Brake, Mill, Lathe and Router, 2 1/2, 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machine and work centers. Knowledgeable of manual machine operation.

 

Able to use precision measuring equipment applicable to this job.
