Ground Systems Instructor

Purpose of Position

The Ground Systems Instructor (GSI) is responsible for accomplishing ground-based academic training of specific non-flying training objectives for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation C-17 Pilot and Loadmaster students as well as handling other training related duties currently accomplished by Instructor Pilots and Loadmasters. The GSI will instruct pilot students in the classroom, Cockpit Systems Simulator (CSS), Core Integrated Processor (CIP) Trainer, Single Point Refueling Trainer (SPR) and at the aircraft designated for static training. The GSI will instruct pilot and loadmaster students using the Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer (VTRAT) and in the NVG Classroom. The GSI will document training performance of students using the Training Management System (TMS).

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain exceptional knowledge of C-17 aircraft pilot normal procedures checklists for preflight and engine start as well as the operating procedures for the C-17 flight deck control panels; and to accomplish training of the applicable pilot checklists using the CSS, CIP Trainer, WST, and C-17 aircraft static trainer.
• Conduct other ground-based training for C-17 crew members using the Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer (VTRAT) , Single Point Refueling Trainer (SPR), C-17 aircraft static trainer and equipment in the NVG Classroom.
•  Conduct briefings, debriefings, and perform counseling with Pilot and Loadmaster students for assigned training events to develop and maintain the highest level of technical acumen and proficiency.
•  Handle the operations of the C-17 Learning Center.
•  Extract student data, analyze results, and prepare for student training sessions.
• Serve as C-17 Aircraft Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME) for lessons taught in the VTRAT, NVG classroom, SPR trainer and at the C-17 aircraft static trainer.
• Maintain exceptional standards of instruction, knowledge levels, capabilities, and expertise.
• Develop and maintain exceptional knowledge of C-17 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
• Consistently display exceptional knowledge and application of instructional principles and theories pertaining to aircrew training systems.
•  Provide inputs for courseware corrections and modifications, along with updates to training policies and procedures.
• Assist in other project and development work, as assigned.
• Operate C-17 TS Training Management System (TMS) and Graduate Training Integration Management System (GTIMS)
•  Conduct exams and prepare results.

Minimum Education

• Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Associates Degree is highly desired. Associate Degree required. Loadmasters with at least 10-years of military experience in the associated position(s) are highly desired.

Minimum Experience

• Must have extensive aviation aircrew or aviation-related instructor experience commensurate with required training topics (aircraft systems).
• Familiarity with the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process is desired. Courseware development experience is highly desirable.
• C-17 experience as a Crewmember is highly desirable. USAF certified NVG Instructor experience is highly desirable.

• Successfully accomplish an annual internal standardization evaluation.
• Currently possess, or demonstrate the ability to obtain, a SECRET clearance.
