The Benefits Specialist administers assigned aspects of health and other benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, EAP, personal accident, short and long term disability, leaves of absence, flexible spending accounts, long term care, cafeteria plans, wellness plans, expatriate benefit plan, workers compensation, COBRA, tuition assistance, and unemployment.  Each Benefits Specialist works closely with other Benefit Specialists to facilitate delivery of coordinated services to participants, dependents, beneficiaries, and Teammate Resources Representatives through the FlightSafety International organization (including FlightSafety Services, Canada, UK, and other FSI entities).


  • Performs duties and participates in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation with other staff, to provide timely, courteous and competent service to teammate resources customers, while striving to meet and exceed customer expectations, for the provision of quality services.
  • Coordinates completion of documentation required for initial new hire enrollment and ongoing participation in programs, including qualified family status changes.  Contacts site Teammate Resources Representatives for related missing items.
  • Coordinates open enrollment events annually, including system changes, testing, plan document review, Teammate communications, responses to Teammate inquiries, enrollment data audits, and liaison to benefit vendors.
  • Enrolls and makes changes to teammate records in insurance carriers’ network and in FlightSafety’s systems.  Transmits eligibility files to benefit vendors, as necessary.
  • Facilitates resolution on eligibility and claims issues with the teammates, site Teammate Resources Representative, and the insurance carriers.
  • Advises Teammate Resources Representatives and/or teammates/dependents verbally and in writing regarding plan provisions and claim procedures.  Ensures that current benefits information and forms are available on the company intranet, if appropriate, and distributed to all sites.
  • Responsible for compliance and administration of all leave of absences including FMLA, Military, Personal, Medical, and Disability.  Assists teammates and Teammate Resources Representatives with leave of absence issues and questions.  Maintains records and reports of teammates on leave of absence.  Coordinates teammate premium payments and continuation of benefits during leave of absence.
  • Prepares and assists in the completion of Short Term Disability claims, Long Term Disability claims, and Death claims.
  • Regularly reviews benefit forms and teammate benefit communications to ensure they accurately reflect plan provisions.       
  • Prepares self-billings for insurance premiums payments and reconciles bills to reports provided by insurance carriers. 


Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

  • Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to clearly relay information, both verbally and written, to others.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from teammates, site teammate resources representatives and managers.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret government regulations and complex documents, involving areas such as 125 benefits, Family Medical Leave Act, ADA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and HRIS systems.


            Education and Formal Training:

Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.



Three to five years of experience in a human resources benefits position.
